This is a marvelous and classic example of artisanship from celebrated Zuni artisan couple Sammy & Esther Guardian. The intricate detail in the inlay, plus the carved pieces of gemstone are simply incredible. On a sterling silver base, the artists used carved mother of pearl and yellow mother of pearl to create the bighorn sheep and the mountain in the background. The forest scene around the sheep is onyx, coral and malachite. Turquoise, coral and other materials were used to frame the picture. Hand stamp work provides a border along the outside edge.
The bolo slide is 2 3/8" wide and 3" tall.
The leathers are 5 mm wide, and are 38" long (including the tips).
The silver tips, which include very cool "plumb bob" dangles are 2 3/4" long.
It weighs 62 g.
The artists' hallmark is "S&E Guardian", for Zuni artisan couple Sammy and Esther Guardian, who have been crafting masterpieces since the early 1970s. This tie was likely made in the 1980s.
